III CONGRESO CIENTÍFICO INTERNACIONAL "EUROCIENCIA JOVEN"

Tracing Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is one of the most important chemical reactions that are essential for life on planet Earth. Since the plants and photosynthesis are the topics in our science lessons this year. With our fifth graders we took a closer look at the entire process.

The aim of our experiments was to trace the way of photosynthesis.

We conducted several experiments:

Ø Evidence of oxygen production during the process of photosynthesis

Ø The effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis

Ø The effect of light colour on the rate of photosynthesis

Ø The effect of water temperature on the rate of photosynthesis

Ø Testing the uptake of carbon dioxide from water by plants

Ø Testing the leaves of Citrus lemon for presence of starch

Finally, we looked at the exact site of photosynthesis:

Ø We were observing Stomata and calculated the number of stomata found on the upper and lower epidermis in Ficus elastica

Ø As well as examine the presence and cytoplasmic streaming of chloroplasts in Elodea densa
